1954 John Deere JD Mod 50

The Story of John Deere: John Deere was born in Rutland, Vermont, February 7, 1804.

In the 1830s, he left vermont for the village of Grand Detour, Illinois.
Cast-Iron ploughs wouldn't work because the rich Midwestern soil clung to the plough bottoms and every few steps it was necessary to scrape the soil from the plough.
John Deere became convinced that a plough with a highly polished moldboard and share ought to scour itself as it turned the sod.

He fashioned such a plough in 1837, using the steel from a broken saw blade, and tested it successfully .
Deere's steel plough proved to be the successful answer to farming in what was then "the West."
In 1918, under Deere & Company's third president, William Butterworth, the company purchased the Waterloo Gasoline Traction Engine Company in Waterloo, Iowa, and tractors became an important part of the John Deere line.
